A walk for the change we need.

We'll gather at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 901 E. Friendly Ave., at 2:00 PM for speakers, gospel music, a drumline, and giant butterfly puppets, then walk nine-tenths of a mile to the early voting site at the old Guilford County Courthouse, 301 W. Market St.

Information tables from our endorsing organizations will be waiting on the lawn. This is a nonpartisan, multicultural, interfaith gathering — immigrant justice and health care and workers' rights and voting rights, side by side, because right now voting is how we change things.

Shuttles (as needed) can bring walkers back to Church of the Redeemer afterward.

GETTING THERE

Parking for Unity Walk to the Polls, Sunday, Oct 25

Our program and walk begin at 2 PM at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 901 E. Friendly Ave., Greensboro. Parking is limited at Bethel AME Church next door and along nearby streets.

Our recommended plan: carpool, and arrive early to drop your passengers at the Redeemer. Then drive four minutes to the Church Street Parking Deck at 215 N. Church St. The deck is a ten-minute walk from the starting point at the Redeemer, and a ten-minute walk from the finish at the Old Courthouse Early Voting site, 301 W. Market St. If you’re able, please use this deck so you can walk to the start and then walk back to your car when the event ends.

Limited Shuttle Service

For those who need extra assistance, limited shuttle service will run after the walk. Shuttles leave on the half hour, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, from the loading zone across from the Greene Street Parking Deck, 211 S. Greene St., near the Old Courthouse finish. The shuttle will return you to the Church Street Parking Deck or Church of the Redeemer.

Join an unprecedented show of community unity...

25 interfaith and civic organizations are endorsing and taking part in the Unity Walk to the Polls. Let's make history, together!

Unity Walk: Feel the Joy of Togetherness

Featuring Inspiring Speakers and the Community Gospel Choir

Come be inspired and feel the power of togetherness. Hear the voices that rarely share a stage: voting rights, racial justice, immigrant justice, workers' rights, health care, and affordability. Join in the public display of a diverse community of concerned citizens united in their belief that voting together will help us all.

Unity Walk: Feel the Joy of Togetherness

Walk with the Grimsley High School Drumline

Come feel the energy! The Grimsley High School Drumline, officially known as the "The Blue Steel" Drumline will be joining the Unity Walk to the Polls. They are a performance-based percussion unit out of Greensboro, North Carolina. Operating under the broader Grimsley High School Band Program, this talented student group serves as an integral part of both the school’s daily Percussion Ensemble class and its after-school marching band program.

Known for their highly "energetic" culture and intense school spirit, the drumline frequently represents Guilford County Schools at major regional events.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The Unity Walk is open to everyone. No registration is required but registration is encouraged to help plan for accessibility and shuttles.

Carpooling is encouraged, and shuttles (as needed) will return walkers to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer after the program.

BRING YOUR KIDS

Kids VOTE! at the Unity Walk to the Polls

Bring the young people in your life to see democracy in action! At this year’s Unity Walk To The Polls, students and teachers from Greensboro’s Doris Henderson Newcomers School will host a Kids Mock Voting Booth, where children can make their own choices, mark a real-looking ballot, drop it in the ballot box, and receive a sticker.

It’s a joyful, hands-on way for kids to learn that every voice counts, and to see the grown-ups in their lives voting too.

There’s lots more for families:

  • Giant Paperhand Puppet butterflies
  •  The Grimsley High School Drumline leading the walk
  •  The Community Gospel Choir, Raging Grannies & Singing Resistance GSO

Sunday, Oct. 25 | 2–5 PM

The Kids VOTE! booth will be on the big lawn in front of the Old Guilford Courthouse, where real early voting is happening. Partner info tables and songs from the Raging Grannies & Singing Resistance will also be there. (The walk starts at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.)

Thank you to Henderson Newcomers School for helping our youngest neighbors take part!

IN UNITY WITH BLACK ACTION MARCH

Also on Sunday, Oct 25, Black Action March—Souls to the Polls

Souls to the Polls is a tradition rooted in the Black church — worship carried straight to the ballot box. This year in Greensboro, it takes the form of the Black Action March, a community and congregational movement to reclaim voting, led by the Pulpit Forum of Greensboro & Vicinity and the Greensboro Branch of the NAACP.

The march gathers at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 25, at New Light Baptist Church, 1105 Willow Road, and marches to the early voting site at Barber Park. You can register and vote the same day at the march.

A Faith-Action Rally and Faith Family Reunion precede it on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church, 1106 Tuscaloosa St., with choirs, keynote speakers, and food vendors.

The two walks step off an hour apart in different areas of the city.

Go to the one that works for you.

One Sunday, two walks. Either way, Greensboro walks to the polls on October 25.
